New CMOS and CCD Image Sensors from Truesense Imaging Target High Performance Imaging Applications

The 12 megapixel (4000 x 3000) KAC-12040 Image Sensor is the first in a planned family of CMOS devices that combine high image quality under both global and rolling shutter operation with very high frame rate, flexible readout modes for accessing multiple regions of interest, and excellent near-IR sensitivity – features becoming vital in a variety of machine vision, intelligent transportation systems, and surveillance applications. Based on a 4.7 micron pixel architecture, the 4/3 optical format KAC-12040 supports multiple regions of interest (ROI) and and interspersed video streams, making this device ideal for applications requiring both high resolution and high frame rates.
The KAI-02170 and KAI-04070 Image Sensors are the latest members of the TRUESENSE 7.4-micron Interline Transfer CCD Family, which provides superior image quality for the most demanding imaging applications. The KAI-02170 is an upgrade to the existing KAI-2093 Image Sensor, retaining the 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution in 1” optical format of the older device but providing faster frame rate (up to 60 fps) and improved image quality. In similar manner, the KAI-04070 improves upon the existing KAI-4011, KAI-4021, and KAI-04022 family of products by retaining the same 4 megapixel (2048 x 2048) resolution in a 4/3 optical format, but again providing increased frame rate (up to 28 fps) and improved image quality. Dynamic range of the new devices is 70 dB (and can be extended to 82 dB in binned pixel operation) and they provide ‑115 dB of smear rejection, allowing them to excel under the most challenging imaging conditions. The new devices are also pin and package compatible with Truesense Imaging’s 5.5 micron pixel family of products, allowing camera manufacturers to easily leverage existing camera designs to support the new devices.
The KAC-12040, KAI-02170, and KAI-04070 Image Sensors are shipping today in Monochrome and Bayer Color configurations. The KAI-02170 and KAI‑04070 Image Sensors are also available with the TRUESENSE Sparse Color Filter Pattern. Evaluation kits are available for all three devices that allow imaging performance to be quickly and easily examined in detail without the need to develop a full camera design.
