What's It Like to "Grow Up in Someone's Shadow"?
When I was growing up as a kid, I had two older brothers who cast big shadows in the town we lived. I remember that everywhere I went, their friends would say, “Oh look, there’s the little brother.” Looking back on it all, I couldn’t be prouder to be the little brother, the younger sibling of two great guys who have meant so much to so many people. But to be honest, at the time, being called ‘squirt’ made me want to work harder, practice longer and perform to the best of my potential. It was tough growing up in someone’s shadow, but my older brothers were trail blazers for me and because they came first, I got opportunities they didn’t have.
My brothers and I haven’t won any Super Bowls (and we’re not on Wheaties cereal boxes) but we have enjoyed watching the rivalry between Peyton Manning and his younger brother Eli, both quarterbacks in the NFL. Recently the brothers were preparing to play each other in a game, and when asked the question. “Who do you think will win?” the younger brother Eli responded, “Both offenses, we just want to have a game where a lot of points are scored and who wins will take care of itself.”
Being the little brother can be a really fulfilling experience in life.
A few weeks ago, we started shipping the KAC-12040 Image Sensor, a 12 Megapixel, 4/3 optical format device that provides rolling and global shutter, very fast frame rate, NIR sensitivity and flexible read-out. And now that the trail has been blazed, we’ve announced its “little brother” – the 6 megapixel, 1 inch optical format KAC-06040 CMOS Image Sensor.
We’ve designed both the 6 Megapixel and 12 Megapixel CMOS Image Sensors to be ‘plug and play’ compatible with the same external package electro-optical-mechanical dimensions, so that camera makers can easily leverage a single design into two cameras – one a 6 Megapixel with 1” optics and the other a 12 Megapixel with 4/3 optics.
Our CMOS strategy at Truesense Imaging is focused – to complement our CCD product portfolio by offering CMOS products for a broader product portfolio to meet a wider range of customer requirements. We define CCD products and CMOS products along with the evaluation hardware and application notes that support them. Coupled with our technical support and customer service, we deliver solutions that best solve customer problems.
We’ve announced the KAC-06040 6 Megapixel CMOS Image Sensor. We’ve been testing its full resolution frame rate at up to 160 fps and characterizing its image quality with both rolling shutter and global shutter modes. We’ve listened to our customers and how they need to serve their applications and we’re continuing to see the benefits of the flexible read-out architecture with multiple regions of interest and interspersed video streams.
We’re confident that both the KAC-06040 and KAC-12040 CMOS Image Sensor are well suited for Machine Vision, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Surveillance, and other applications that demand high functionality while delivering excellent image quality. We’re excited to see the new ways customers will use this solution to solve other problems. We’re excited, because when the customer wins, we all win.
What’s it like growing up in someone’s shadow? Well, little brother Eli Manning and older brother Peyton are both NFL champions with very productive careers. As for me, personally, I’ve done just fine and am honored to be the little brother in my family and oh by the way, I have a lot of cousins that make me proud too! I can tell you one thing for sure, in our company there are a lot of new products on their way that will make the family proud.
